Frequently Asked Questions
Is what I say confidential?
My work is carried out in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework and its ethical principles. One of the main commitments of the BACP Ethical Framework is to provide counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
What will my first session be like?
This initial session will give us an opportunity to get to know each other and look at what you would like to work on in counselling. It will help you decide whether counselling is what you are looking for and if you feel comfortable working with me. If so we will agree to meet on a regular basis.
How long will I need counselling?
This depends on your needs or circumstances. You might have a specific issue or concern and so you might be looking at short term counselling (usually between 4 to 8 sessions). Or you might want to explore deeper issues over a longer period. Some clients might come back once or twice a year for a series of sessions if a specific concern has come up.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
I usually require 24 hours notice of any cancellations, otherwise the full fee may be payable. Where possible I will endeavour to rearrange your appointment within the same week.
